UXMAL + XOCNACEH

Catherwood’s guide leads you on a private tour of Uxmal, the largest of the sites famed for their elaborate Puuc-style architecture, whose main buildings are aligned to observe astronomical events. We visit the Pyramid of the Magician and the Palace of the Governor—two of the finest pre-Hispanic Mexican structures in existence—as well as the Nunnery Quadrangle and the House of the Turtles.

LUNCHTIME

We visit Hacienda Xocnaceh—a private property open only to Catherwood travelers. At its zenith, Xocnaceh produced cattle and henequen, the “green gold” that brought tremendous wealth to the Yucatán in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A delicious Catherwood lunch is served in the chapel ruins at Xocnaceh and after lunch, there’s swimming in the water tank, converted into a pool, exploration of the archaeological site, or just plain relaxation.

MÉRIDA + TEKIK DE REGIL

Today we explore Mérida, a city that preserves its rich architectural heritage like no other. Travel its shady avenues, lined with exquisite mansions from the end of the 19th century, when henequen wealth reached its zenith and the fiber’s producers sought to reaffirm their prestige and world-view in architecture. You will also visit the cathedral and famous restored buildings in the city center.

LUNCHTIME

We will visit, Catherwood’s most iconic hacienda. An architectural gem from the Yucatecan Belle Époque, that was rescued and painstakingly restored. Your private visit takes you to the hacienda’s chapel, its machine house, and the breathtaking main house. When you arrive to the hacienda you’ll be able to refresh and enjoy a moment of relaxation in the main pool. After a private meal takes place with traditional flavors of Yucatecan and Mayan recipes of our chefs, enjoy meal in a unique experience on a beautiful setting by the terrace of the hacienda.

IZAMAL + CASA MADERA

This morning is about incredible Izamal—where almost every structure is egg-yolk yellow! But Izamal is no mere tourist trap—it’s a living Maya town and art colony. Catherwood’s expert guides lead you to all of Izamal’s principal sites and explain its intriguing blend of Maya, Spanish and modern cultures. We will also visit Maya artisans’ homes and workshops and witness the creation of their magnificent crafts.

LUNCHTIME

Beautiful, eclectic Casa de Madera (“the Wooden House”) combines character, charm and nature with the quiet rhythms of small-town life. Tucked into a residential neighborhood near the center of Izamal, the house’s original section has been meticulously restored to highlight colorful details such as its charming wall paintings. The swimming pool is fantastic for a dip after a day in the Yucatecan sun, the terrace overlooking the lily pool is truly enchanting at cocktail hour ideal to be enjoyed with traditional Yucatecan food.

CHICHÉN ITZÁ +XOCEMPICH

Our journey can begin or end with a private tour in Chichén Itzá, the pre-Hispanic world’s most celebrated archaeological site. Originally built by the Maya, later conquered by Itzás, and Toltecs, and ultimately defeated by princes of Mayapán. You’ll visit the world famous Castillo, a pyramid recently declared one of the Seven New Wonders of the World. We also visit the site’s other principal constructions and then the Sacred Cenote, where sacrificial offerings have been found. Choose to watch this beautiful archaeological site with the sky colors of the sunset or the sunrise.

LUNCHTIME OR BRUNCH

We head to Xocempich, a private cenote on the ruins of an historic ranch, a refreshing treat open only to Catherwood travelers. Swim or snorkel in the cenote’s crystalline waters and relax for hours in total privacy. A delicious Yucatecan menu is served beneath the magnificent old trees.

We will visit Hacienda San Pedro Ochil, a charming property with Moorish-style arches and neoclassical influences, inside it keeps remains of ancient Mayan platforms from the city of Abalá. At the bottom of the hacienda you can admire an amphitheater that flows into a cenote, during the tour you will appreciate a path of huge palm trees on a truck, the original chimney of the hacienda, and henequen plantations. The history of Ochil goes back to the corn-farmer haciendas, in the 17th century, it is also known that it was probably a Cacao hacienda or part of Mucuyché. During meal you will be able to taste Yucatecan delicacies such as lime soup, panuchos, cochinita pibil and relleno negro, in an environment surrounded by nature, history and culture.

CELESTÚN + TAMCHEN

Discover Celestún, the ideal Mexican paradise to enjoy a day in connection with nature. In this natural reserve of the peninsula you can admire hundreds of flamingos and explore its mangroves in a boat. At the end you will swim in a lagoon and take a walk through this beautiful fishing village that is ideal to relax with the sound of the sea and a cool breeze.

LUNCHTIME

You will be welcomed at the beautiful Tamchen Hacienda with a tour in which you will learn a little about the history and restoration of the Private Haciendas properties. Explore this contemporary and modern hacienda that was restored from ruins. Later you will head to the pool area whereyou can take a refreshing dip in the pool and enjoy the delicious flavors of the Yucatecan gastronomy in a unique setting overlooking the pond and the principal pool.
